The Proposal Story

Doug and I met through my best friend, Jacci Preuss. Thank you Yahoo! Messenger!

Jacci introduced Doug to Staci and even though Staci was so focused on her studies at Wartburg and hanging out with her friends, Doug managed to make an impact on her life. Months went by and Doug and Staci decided to finally meet – face to face. Read about He proposed… Enjoy!

proposalWill You Marry Me?

the day Doug proposed… we were visiting Dan at the Kay’s Store in Des Moines two weeks before graduating from Wartburg College. Doug kept insisting that we go visit him soon, I was thinking true – especially since we were moving to South Dakota within a month. So we went.

Once we arrived we walked the long way around, because Doug insisted that we had too. I kept telling him but this is closer – the store looks to be right over here – anyway we did end up walking past the store opening to a window that they place jewelry in for the window shoppers. And to my SURPRISE… there is a sign by a teddy bear… HEY STACI, will you marry me?

But guess what happens now… I had the ring on for 2 minutes Dan packages it up with a pretty red bow on the top for Doug to carry… Note: not on Staci’s finger.

And so we get home… sits on top of our computer desk… and I wait! and wait.

I wait and wait.

Two weeks later getting ready for graduation from college. That morning I had graduation practice and by the time I got back to Cedar Falls where we were living, Doug’s parents and Doug were ready to head out for the morning. As I am getting ready… switching into a dress for graduation ceremony… Doug wants to take my pictures with my Cap and Gown… so I hurry to get that on before we have to leave and then Doug says… OH by the way – I think this is something you may want.

And I just stand still and SMILE!

it was the engagement ring that has been sitting downstairs on the computer desk and was still wrapped with that red bow on top.

Not much time left… we head to Wartburg College for my graduation ceremony and as soon as we get there I run into Jacci and show her.

Have Fun with Marketing

By Richard RidleyAs you examine the year ahead and formulate your marketing strategy, I have one suggestion for you: Have fun! Just because you take your career as an author seriously doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy it. If you’re mired in tasks that fill you with dread and consternation, don’t do those tasks. PDF–What You See Is Not Always What You Get

PDF file conversions don’t always look like your original manuscript, which can be frustrating for you and your readers when they open the book on their Kindles.
PDFs are a fixed format designed for printing, and converting them to a reflowable format is tricky. If you still have your original source file in a format like Word, try converting that instead of the PDF.

New Payment Report now available for Kindle Direct Publishing

Just received this in my email yesterday from Kindle Direct Publishing:

We’ve added a new Payment Report so you can easily access your royalty payment information at any time through your KDP account:
https://kdp.amazon.com/kdp/self-publishing/reports

The information included in your Remittance Advice (payment notification) is now available in the report, plus some helpful new additions.

Here’s what’s new:

  • View Detailed Payment Information – You can view your latest payment status, tax withholding amounts, and the sales period for which royalty payments have been made.
  • Reconcile Your Payments with the Prior Months’ Royalties Report – The Accrued Royalty column in the payment report helps you match payments received to the royalty amounts indicated on your Prior Months’ Royalties report.
  • Learn About Applicable Exchange Rates – You can see the exchange rates applied during processing of your foreign currency payments.
  • Access Historical Transaction Information – Starting from sales periods beginning November 2013, you will now be able to view payment information for the most recent 12 months. For information about sales periods prior to November 2013, please refer to your previous Remittance Advice (payment notification) emails.

As before, around the 20th of each month, you will receive an email notifying you when royalty payments are issued for sales on worldwide Amazon marketplaces. While in the past, your royalty payment amount was listed in the Remittance Advice (payment notification) email without accompanying detail (like exchange rates), starting today, you will receive an email alert whenever a new payment has been made and when you sign in to access the Payment Report you will find the amount as well as all the detail listed above. These changes do not affect the timing of your KDP royalty payments, applicable royalty rates, or your chosen method of payment in any way. Your current KDP Account Payment Settings will also remain unchanged.

To access the Payment Report, sign in to your KDP account and click on the “Reports” tab. Then, select “Payments” from the list of available report options.
